To try and recover from the financial rollercoaster that the pandemic outbreak put Twitter on, the company stated on July 23 that it's considering implementing a subscription service to rebuild their ad revenue.

Despite Covid-19 leading to a massive increase in Twitter users over the past few months, the company couldn't properly capitalise on this surge as advertisers lost the budget to promote their goods and services on the platform. So despite this "success", Twitter actually experienced an operational loss of over US$100mil during the quarter.

To potentially counteract this downturn, the company announced yesterday that it's "in early stages of exploring add'l potential revenue products that complement our advertising business, which may include subscriptions & others;" however, Twitter is in such early stages of this development that it's not expecting to make a revenue from this at all in 2020.

Which services will potentially come with a price tag have yet to be outlined, though CNN reported recently that during an investor call, CEO Jack Dorsey told analysts that "You will likely see some tests this year," and that "a really high bar for when we would ask consumers to pay for aspects of Twitter."
