Samsung has introduced its Gauss generative AI (artificial intelligence) model on the second day of its 2023 AI Forum, developed by Samsung Research.

The model consists of Gauss Language, said to be capable of creating text content such as emails, document summaries and translations; Gauss Code, used for in-house software development; and Gauss Image, which can reportedly both create new images and edit existing ones.

The company claims that Gauss Language has the potential to improve user experience by allowing for “smarter device control when integrated into products”, while Gauss Code is optimised for in-house software development to allow its "developers to code easily and quickly".

Gauss Image also has the ability to upscale low-resolution images to higher-resolutions, Samsung says.

According to a press release from the South Korean electronics giant, the model is "currently used on employee productivity but will be expanded to a variety of Samsung product applications to provide new user experience in the near future".

Following the unveiling, rumours swirled on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the company would be incorporating the generative AI model with the currently unannounced Galaxy S24.

An earlier report from The Korea Daily claims that Samsung plans to integrate AI directly in its software, with the addition of either Google Bard or OpenAI's ChatGPT on the device.

Similarly Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of smartphone maker Apple, also confirmed last week that it is investing "quite a bit" into developing generative AI technologies during an earnings call with investors.
