ROTTERDAM, Netherlands: An attacker with a knife stabbed one person to death and seriously wounded another in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam on Thursday, police said.

Police have arrested a suspect, who is also seriously injured himself and has been taken to hospital.

Police said their investigation was in "full swing" and called for witnesses to come forward.

A sports instructor who was giving a class near the Erasmus Bridge where the stabbing occurred told NOS he had managed to overpower the attacker.

"I saw a man with two long knives stabbing a young guy," he told NOS. "I eventually managed to get them away."
