NEW YORK, Dec. 30 -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.13 percent to 108.132 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.0397 U.S. dollars from 1.0428 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.2544 dollars from 1.2582 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.09 Japanese yen, lower than 157.94 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.9040 Swiss francs from 0.9018 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.4359 Canadian dollars from 1.4411 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 11.0249 Swedish Kronor from 11.0011 Swedish Kronor.
