PETALING JAYA: The sense of unity among Malaysians in the fight against Covid-19 is still lacking, and this had contributed to the high number of positive cases, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said this was reflected in various lapses in compliance with the standard operating procedure among the public, even though the pandemic had been around for more than a year.

“I think this (unity) is lacking because there is discordance.

‘’Instead of fighting against Covid-19, we are fighting against each other in terms of opinion, approach and so on,” he said in his speech at the 1st Malaysia International Webinar on Psychological First Aid organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris yesterday, as reported by Bernama.

Dr Noor Hisham gave his assurance that during the crisis, every decision is made with thorough consideration.

“When you have lives and livelihoods, how do you create the right balance? It is difficult and challenging to have minimum impact on the economic front, and maximum outcomes in terms of health.

“This is why sometimes, it’s not straightforward because you need to take into consideration many other issues before a decision is made,” he said.

Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 5,911 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases reported since the pandemic began to 691,115.

Some 24 new Covid-19 clusters were identified, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 824.

Of the 24, four involved detention centres in Negri Sembilan, Labuan, Johor and Kelantan.

However, the bulk of new clusters continue to be detected in workplaces, with 12 of such clusters detected yesterday.

Seven others were community clusters, while one cluster involved a high-risk group in Kedah.Dr Noor Hisham said 72 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, from 64 Malaysians and eight foreigners.

“Selangor topped the list for the most deaths, with 23 fatalities, followed by Kuala Lumpur (15), Negri Sembilan (seven), Pahang (six), while Johor and Sarawak each recorded five each,” he said in a statement.

The 72 deaths recorded brings Malaysia’s total death toll from Covid-19 to 4,348.

We have been following your plan and SOPS for the past 16 months without any positive result.

How long you intend to put us in captivity to address your fear?

Please let us live our life. You are an epic failure!

This Dr Noor is one of the culprit contributing to the increase of covid cases today, bcos he never improve their own SOP mah!

1. Why during the sabah election with many covid cases, those politician are not quarantine when they came back to peninsular leh ?

2. Why & how did u let more than 100,000 students to go back kampung, when we still have inter district & inter state travel ban at the height of covid cases during hari raya leh ?

people like scapegoat,
good for stewing,
and many enjoy eating stew goat, without risking the fire at the kitchen, especially when one does not need to lift a finger.

Being fair is hard for most, especially at a time of trouble.

Dr Noor Hisham is just a DG of Health, on the rank, he takes order from many "experts" especially the political one. A so called total lock down, where beer factory ordered to close, but Coca cola factory is running, LV can continue selling, traffic jammed up the roads all over towns, all going to work, Total lock down has nothing to do with work, both can run parallel, a concept that is mind boggling. Economy must run, so that we can get to buy vaccines at exorbitant price...etc

His opinion can be like wind, blowing through the ears, left to right, right to left, especially for certain politicians that has nothing between that two ear lobes.

He cannot decide if an election should or should not be held, especially politicians elected by the majority decided to hold one for political tussle sake.

Neither can he advise the Education ministers, who's wet between the ears, probably with children left school already, decided schools must open, colleges must have classes, as he suddenly thought, education is very important, as he himself lack of it, so must risks the lives of all school going children, their parents, the teachers. Yes we are all on the high road to literacy, while fighting to breathe is not that worrisome, we have enough unoccupied ICU beds then.... as education budget needs to be spent,, hospital need to have business.
