KUALA LUMPUR: As Pas gears-up its election machinery to face the 15th General Election, the Islamic party has cautioned its members on making statement, fearing it may harm its plans and struggle.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said no statement should be issued by anyone in the party without the permission of party president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The caution comes as the party faces intense scrutiny and pressure, with GE15 nearing and it continues to court both Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as allies.

Takiyuddin said as polls are around the corner, all levels of the party need to focus on their responsibilities outlined by the party's Central Election Committee.

He added that Pas leaders and members were required to maintain and obey the party's tanzim (agreement) and discipline by accepting all rulings and decisions, especially those adopted by the party's Shura Council and the Central Working Committee on the basis of unwavering wala' or obedience.

"Pas is confident in the struggle based on Islam and a clear direction for the interests of religion, race and nation and will continue to help the country and the people even after GE15 alongside its coalition of political consensus which have the same goal", he said in a statement, here, today.

He, however, did not mention who would be part of this coalition of political consensus.

Pas is currently a member of Muafakat Nasional, which also comprises Umno as well as Perikatan Nasional, which is made up of Bersatu, Gerakan, Star and SAPP.

Pas entered the current federal administration after a 42 year absence following its partnership with Umno and Bersatu.

Pas was part of the first Barisan Nasional federal government from 1974 to 1977, when it had collaborated with Umno.
