KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will decide on the coalition's candidate for the deputy prime minister's post.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan said the issue of the post was discussed in the BN Supreme Council meeting although no names to fill the post were mentioned in the meeting.
"We did discuss the matter but the candidate has been determined....it is up to the chairman as he has been given the mandate. We only discussed the position, no names were mentioned," said Saravanan to Berita Harian.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was reported as saying that two deputy prime minister's posts will be created in the Cabinet with each being filled by representatives from BN and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Anwar was appointed as the country's 10th Prime Minister yesterday to end a five day impasse after no coalitions managed to secure a simple majority in the 15th General Election.
Anwar will lead a unity government which will consist of BN, GPS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah although he had also extended an invitation to Perikatan Nasional to join the government.
