KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP member of parliament today urged the Barisan Nasional supreme council to investigate all BN MPs who signed a statutory declaration (SD) to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

Kampar MP Chong Zhemin said investigations and disciplinary actions must be taken if BN wanted to maintain the unity government's stability and prevent the Sheraton Move from recurring.

He said the call for investigations to be carried out was in line with Umno's move to take disciplinary action against its MPs who signed the SD supporting Muhyiddin after the 15th General Election (GE15).

"Why are only Umno MPs punished for supporting Muhyiddin as the prime minister and not other BN MPs?

"Are all BN MPs at the same level, or are there some who are higher than others?

"I have no intention to interfere in BN's internal affairs, but all efforts must be taken to ensure the stability of the unity government and prevent Sheraton Move 2.0 to unseat the government from happening again," he said in a statement today.

Umno president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have revealed the identities of 10 BN MPs who had signed the SD without the approval of their parties.

The MPs comprised six from Umno, two from MCA, and one each from MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah..

Several media reports stated that the 10 were Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is Sembrong MP, Datuk Hasni Mohammad (Simpang Renggam), Datuk Seri Jalaludin Alias (Jelebu), Datuk Isam Isa (Tampin), Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (Kuala Pilah), Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad (Lipis), Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam), Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (Tapah), Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai) and Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup (Pensiangan).

On Jan 27, Umno supreme council decided to take disciplinary action against several of its key leaders, including Hishammuddin, whose membership has been suspended for six years.

Hasni was dropped as the Johor Umno liaison committee chairman and replaced by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

After the GE15 results, there was a hung Parliament, and no party was able to obtain a simple majority of 112 seats in the Dewan Rakyat to form a government.

It was reported that 10 BN MPs had signed a SD to support Muhyiddin, but they retracted it before Istana Negara announced Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.

Chong stressed that a full investigation must be conducted against all BN MPs who signed the SD.

"Under the Statutory Declarations Act 1960, any person who makes a false SD can be charged and faces imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine," he said.
