ISKANDAR PUTERI: Housing developers facing problems completing their projects on schedule should come forward to get help, says Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

The state housing and local government committee chairman said help would be rendered, given that there were 33 housing projects deemed “sick” and another eight abandoned as of Jan 31.

“These ‘sick’ and abandoned housing projects are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government through the Local Government Development Ministry.

“However, the state government is willing to work with developers that have their housing projects categorised as ‘sick’ and abandoned,” he said in Kota Iskandar yesterday.

He was replying to Abdul Aziz Talib (PN-Maharani), who had wanted to know the status of low-cost and medium-cost houses and abandoned shophouses at Taman Parit Unas Laut in Muar.

Mohd Jafni said developers facing problems were welcome to seek the state government’s assistance through the plan, design and review committee he chairs.

Others in the committee are the Land and Mines Office, local authorities and agencies such as the Works Department, and Syarikat Air Johor.

“Developers need to come to the state government and tell us of the problems they are facing – only then will we be able to help,” he added.

He said that up to Feb 27, the committee had held nine meetings that have compelled developers to complete 12,518 affordable housing units until 2026 involving 68 projects, 25 developers and 10 local authorities across the state.

Mohd Jafni said the state government was committed to solving the “sick” housing projects problem in Johor for the well-being of the people.

“God willing, even if ‘sick’ or abandoned projects, which do not fall under the jurisdiction of the state government, we will still be committed to helping coordinate them until they are completed,” he added.
