PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia My Second Home Consultants Association (MM2HCA) is ready to actively engage with the government on the review of the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

MM2HCA president Anthony Liew Yong Huat said they are committed to engaging with the government and providing feedback based on their expertise and experience.

“MM2HCA looks forward to working closely with the government to support the development of a robust and successful MM2H programme that aligns with the changing dynamics of the global market and positions Malaysia as a preferred destination for a second home,” he said in a statement.

His remarks came in the wake of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s statement yesterday that the government would review the programme’s requirements to make it more flexible.

In welcoming the ministry’s announcement, Liew said the group, which represents licenced professional consultants for the MM2H programme, appreciated the proactive approach in making the programme more flexible and accessible to potential foreign participants.

He said the association was pleased with the government’s plan to create a one-stop centre under the ministry to coordinate and streamline communications with various stakeholders, which in turn would lead to a better implementation of the programme.

“It will serve as a central point of contact for all stakeholders and help to ensure that the MM2H programme is operating at optimal levels of efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.

Liew went on to say that the MM2H programme has been an essential contributor to the country’s economy by attracting several high-net-worth individuals from around the world.

This has provided benefits to various sectors, including government, hospitality, industry, medical tourism, private education, real estate and financial institutions, he added.

In this regard, the ministry said the decision was reached after a meeting between its minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and the Home Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Ruji Ubi, on Tuesday.

The ministry also mentioned that Tourism Malaysia would promote and provide recommendations for applications using a filtering process through the MM2H one-stop centre.

“The centre will process applicants for the programme and gather all the information needed to be forwarded to the Home Ministry and Immigration Department for the processing and issuing of the MM2H pass,” it said in a Facebook post.

It said visa on arrival (VOA) facilities for tourists from China and India were discussed and that the Home Ministry has agreed that they are beneficial and should be continued.

The ministry added that Asean countries such as Indonesia have opened VOA facilities for other countries, and this must be expedited so that Malaysia can make the most of the opportunity.
