PETALING JAYA: The potential collaboration between former premiers Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad signifies a powerful testament to their dedication to combat corruption and prioritising broad-based prosperity, says Mahathir Mohd Rais.

The Federal Territories Perikatan Nasional information chief said their pledge presented a significant opportunity to address the complex challenges faced by Malays and the Muslim population in the country.

“This strategic partnership shines a light on hope, signalling a unified effort against corruption and a commitment to equal and inclusive progress.

“It's a resonant message of optimism that extends beyond politics. Within this context, the potential collaboration of the Perikatan chairman (Muhyiddin) and Dr Mahathir could mark a turning point.

“They view the eradication of power abuse and corruption as critical to their mission, with a clear vision to foster a government defined by transparency, authority, and a resolute stance against corruption,” he said in a statement on Friday (June 2).

The Segambut Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia division chief’s statement comes after Dr Mahathir expressed his willingness to work with Muhyiddin if they could reach an agreement on mutual goals.

Muhyiddin had on Friday said that he was prepared to work with Dr Mahathir again for their common goal of protecting Malay and Muslim interests.

Mahathir said the Pagoh MP was a vital figure in the collaboration, embodying unity among the Malays, especially in addressing economic and political hurdles.

“Dr Mahathir's acknowledgement of the challenges posed by political polarisation within the Malay community underscores the necessity for unity. This alliance signifies a shift from narrow political interests towards a broader common good,” he added.

“Tan Sri Hadi Abdul Awang (PAS president) further fortifies this unity with his steadfast stance on ethics and integrity bringing credibility to this collaboration.

“Together, they aim to enhance the effectiveness of government initiatives for the benefit of bumiputra and all Malaysians, addressing the persistent economic difficulties faced by the Malays,” he said.

He added the unprecedented era of cooperation, unity, and shared purpose heralds a promise of remarkable progress, reinforced communities, and an equitable and prosperous economy.

Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin’s relationship went awry following the infamous “Sheraton move” that resulted in the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.

Both had worked together in the 14th General Election.
