Muhyiddin calls for Anwar, Zahid to resign after polls outcome shows Malays' rejection of PH-BN

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, following PN's gains in the just-concluded six state elections.
Muhyiddin said that the results of the state polls are a sign of the Malays' rejection of the federal alliance between Anwar's Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Zahid's Barisan Nasional (BN), with the latter represented by Umno in the state elections.
"It is true that the state election is a referendum on the people's rejection of the PH-BN collaboration. Anwar Ibrahim and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi must take moral responsibility and resign as prime minister and deputy prime minister," he said at a press conference after victors were declared in the six states.
PN made inroads in the elections, with the coalition winning 11 seats in Penang, 22 in Selangor, and five in Negeri Sembilan. The coalition also denied PH-BN a two-thirds majority in Selangor.
However, the status quo remains in all six states, albeit with a major deficit in Malay representation in Selangor.
The former prime minister said this was proof that Malay voters are backing the coalition.
Umno, the backbone of BN, only managed to secure victory in 19 out of the 108 contested seats, failing to secure any seats in Terengganu and Kedah and securing just one seat and two seats in Kelantan and Penang, respectively.
In Selangor, Umno won two seats, while in Negeri Sembilan, it won 14 seats.
PN won 146 of the 245 state seats that were up for grabs.

The green wave is different. It drives red to Bursa, red eye for jealousy and handout demand, as well as red to the soil with bauxite and deforestation.

I feel that argument that voting went on racial lines need to analysised in detail..Let us not overlook the fact that the population of just selangor is much, much more than the population of the 3 states that PN had won combined..... If you look at the population make-up, you will be surprised to note that most of the state constituencies in Selangor has a majority malay population. In NS, almost all the constituencies have a Malay majority. Even in Penang, there are a few constituencies with majority Malay population. The point is unless we know how the voting went through out the six states, it may not be statistically proper to make sweeping statements of how a particular community voted. My own gut feeling is there are differences in perception towards the govt based on regions and political/religious influence with states. A factor in the PM's favour he is very new in office and the impact of his policies may take some time to seriously impact the voting pattern.. We have to wait and see..

I feel in a democratic country we should not overly "demonize" the political choices of certain groups.. The challengue is to convince and win them over... The PM has been in office for less than a year..and being new, I am sure the govt would have taken time to settle in as well. Let us see what he can do... Let us also not overlook the fact the voter turnout was low..So the people who actually voted relative to the population must be very low.... especially in the PN states...Another point, the combined population of the three PH won states is roughly 10.2 mil while that of the other three is 5.25 mil...Selangor alone has a population of roughly 7.21 mil....Do you see the diparity and the difficulty in making comparisons?

The reason why positive issues based on integrity, transparency and good governance are ignored and voters choose populism instead. We had seen that before during the incarceration of Najib and his court cases, despite their negativity, where his popularity bought Bersatu losses in Malacca & Johor state elections.
However, any pronounced shift in voters' sentiments toward good governance and positive values can only happen if there are significant shifts in what voters perceived as "discriminative values" whether real or not that led them to vote for populism.
“The continued rise of the green wave is an expected push-back against multiracialism and multiculturalism.
“This push-back will continue until the majority of Malaysians learn that ethno-nationalism is dangerous and leads to fragmentation of our society.
“The same issue is faced in many parts of the world as people seek quick answers to problems of inequality and marginalisation,” said Leong.

Let us wait and observe how the PHBN-led government is going to resolve the issue of a certain section of voters dissatisfied with them. Anwar has 2 years to do that before another state election is due.

Moo is just trying to save his own skin from the corruption cases he is charged with in court.
He has nothing to offer except playing up race and religion divisive issue to pull down unity government.

Precisely the point, Moo will play the victim of political persecution by the Anwar government because he is leading the opposition. Sympathy will be with him. The Malay support for underdogs has always been recorded since Anwar's reformasi days. Populism not withstanding.
