PUTRAJAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has confirmed that he met with Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over the statements of Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh on the sale of socks with the word "Allah" at KK Super Mart convenience stores.

Loke, however, refused to divulge what was discussed between the two political leaders.

"I have met Ahmad Zahid, but that is between him and I," he said at a press conference at the Transport Ministry’s headquarters here, on Friday (March 22).

Previously, Loke had shared DAP’s views with Ahmad Zahid during a breaking-fast event at Istana Negara on Monday (March 18).

On March 19, Loke called on all politicians to build bridges instead of escalating situations when sensitive issues arise.

The Seremban MP also said that DAP did not agree with the approach by Dr Akmal as KK Mart had apologised and acknowledged their mistake.

Following Loke’s reply, Dr Akmal stressed that he would not back down to any non-Muslim political leader on the socks issue and would continue his stand to urge the public to boycott KK Super Mart for allowing such socks to be on sale.

On March 13, a picture containing a pair of white socks bearing the word, Allah were circulated online claiming that it was sold at a KK Super Mart store in Bandar Sunway.
