PETALING JAYA: The compulsory conversion of open cage systems to closed coop systems could lead to a shortage of chicken and eggs, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"The new system will cost an additional RM7mil to RM10mil where 70% (mostly the small and medium scale poultry farmers) would not be able to afford it," the Ayer Hitam MP said in a Facebook post after chairing the Johor MCA liaison committee meeting in Johor Baru on Friday (March 22).

"We discussed several current issues, including national debt, inflation and the rising cost of living, financial incentive for sugar manufacturers and the problems of newly constructed and relocated Chinese primary schools that have yet to be implemented," the MCA president said in his post.

Dr Wee said the meeting also discussed appointing leaders to chair the MCA's state tourism bureau, which will help promote the country's tourism industry and the MM2H programme that will increase the national income.

"At the same time, I also urge all comrades to work hard and be well prepared for the next state election to ensure a landslide victory for Barisan Nasional," added Dr Wee.
