KOTA KINABALU: Tension within Sabah PKR continues to intensify after the top two leaders in the party's youth wing engaged in a war of words.

It all started when state PKR Youth chief Zaidi Jatil issued a statement pledging his support for embattled Dr Sangkar Rasam, who is facing calls for him to step down, to continue leading the state PKR leadership.

Zaidi's statement over the issue did not go down well with his deputy Remysta Taylor when he told the former to keep his mouth shut.

Remysta added that Zaidi should not interfere and leave the matter to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"Apart from that, he (Zaidi) never consulted the rest of us in the youth movement before he issued the statement.

"This means he did not represent the views of the Sabah PKR Youth.

"And it is unfair to the 15 youth division chiefs if he claimed to have spoken on behalf of the wing," he said in a statement.

Remysta added that by taking sides in the ongoing power struggle, it can cause cracks within the party, especially when the issue has yet to be resolved.

"The problem with taking sides is that if things go wrong, our party will become weak. I believe our president (Anwar) knows the best way to deal with the power struggle.

"As for the rest of us, it is wise to just keep our mouth shut and focus on our actions in strengthening the youth movement," he said

Last week, 15 out of 26 division chiefs demanded Sangkar to resign from his post as the Sabah PKR chairman.

Sangkar appeared unfazed with such a demand when he insisted to stay on and fulfil the mandate given by Anwar and asked the rest to focus on election.
