KULAI: Singapore-based Bridge Data Centres (BDC) is expected to invest RM15bil on its data centre presence in Malaysia, says Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said the company had already invested more than RM2bil in the first phase of its project at the Kulai Data Exchange Centre (Kidex) in Sedenak.

“As of the first quarter of this year, BDC is the largest data centre operator that we have in Johor,” she said.

The company, she said, had completed its phase one development in Kidex, and is now looking to expand the data centre.

“BDC is planning to invest around RM15bil over the next five years, not only in Kulai but also in Cyberjaya and Bukit Jalil,” she told reporters after a mock cheque and water tank handover ceremony at Dewan Komuniti Kampung Sri Muar, Layang-Layang here yesterday.

Teo, who is Kulai MP, said 121 water tanks were being provided to Kampung Sri Muar villagers who had been facing water supply issues in the past few days.

State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the Johor government had also allocated 120 water tanks on March 10 to the villagers.

“The water issue is due to a pipe replacement project by Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd. We hope that this work will be completed soon so that the villagers can prepare for the coming Hari Raya,” he said.

Kampung Sri Muar village chief Surono Karimen said the water issue was manageable so far due to the constant supply provided by Ranhill SAJ.

“The main problem previously was due to the old pipes in the village that could no longer cater to the increasing population. Right now, we are waiting for the company to fix the old pipes so that the water supply can resume,” he said.

The village has about 350 people living in 135 houses.
