TUARAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor says the state is poised to emerge as one of the leading states in Malaysia within the next five years, powered by strategic plans to boost its economy and development, Sabah Media reported.

Hajiji highlighted the state's potential, anchored on the roadmap of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) which has already initiated numerous programmes and economic recovery measures.

Speaking at an iftar event in Masjid As Sajidin Kampung Tambalang, Hajiji expressed confidence in the state's trajectory.

"What is important is the planning to help and further enhance the socio-economic status of the people.

"All of this is based on the direction of SMJ that we developed after we were in the severe Covid-19 pandemic when I took over the reins of the government a year after becoming the chief minister.

"Many business premises were closed, this was the challenge and atmosphere when I took over the government, but quietly I was organising, arranging, and introducing the direction of SMJ.

In this direction, I am confident that within five years, Sabah will rise to the top tier in Malaysia based on the government's plan to enhance the state's economy and development," he said.

Hajiji also revealed his hope for Tuaran to set a benchmark in unity and robust support for the current state administration.

He urged the public to discern truth from falsehood, especially in the face of the opposition's slander against the state government.

Despite a hectic Ramadan schedule, Hajiji remains committed to community engagements, including an upcoming iftar in Penang with 1,400 Sabah Foundation-sponsored students.

He called for strengthened ties and remembrance of the less fortunate during the holy month, highlighting the essence of togetherness and compassion.

At the event, Hajiji facilitated the distribution of aid to 728 beneficiaries from 21 villages in Mukim Tambalang, embodying the spirit of giving and community support.
