PETALING JAYA: Eating out has become more expensive for Malaysians who have noticed the price of their favourite dishes surging by up to RM2.

Medical practitioner Dr R. Mohan, 28, has almost no time to cook at home, which makes eating out his only option on his working days.

“I frequently eat outside even though I prefer home-cooked meals. But nowadays, I notice I need to spend more as some meals are more expensive,” said Dr Mohan, who is from Kuala Lumpur.

He added that most food at decent mixed rice stalls or restaurants has seen prices increase by RM1.50 to RM2.

“It would be great if a set meal with a drink costs below RM10. Sadly, you can hardly find places that charge less than that, even for food only,” he said.

Executive Choo Jia Hui, 25, said the price of tom yam, her favourite dish, has increased at her go-to restaurant.

“I’m very sensitive to price changes and I noticed that the tom yam soup at a restaurant I frequent recently became more expensive by RM1.50,” she said.Choo added that even Chinese economy rice or chap fan (mixed rice) is becoming unaffordable.

However, she said that she understands the situation as the price of most commodities has increased, forcing operators to raise their prices.

“I just hope our economy can recover soon so that the well-being of every Malaysian can be taken care of,” she added.
