KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative has successfully completed the construction of 1,500 units of Rumah Mesra SMJ, aimed at providing comfortable housing for the hardcore poor and lower-income families in Sabah, Sabah Media reported.

In the latest report shared by the Sabah Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB), Assistant Minister of Rural Development Datuk Samad Jamri announced that another 1,500 units are currently under construction across the state for this year.

The project, which commenced last year under the 2022 allocation, ensures that each State Legislative Assembly area in Sabah receives 20 homes.

"This program is set to continue this year with the construction of another 1,500 units, bringing the total to 3,000 homes, aimed at benefiting the hardcore poor and B40 households," Samad Jamri said in a press release.

During a recent breaking of fast event at An-Nur Mosque in Tuaran, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor highlighted the establishment of the SMJ secretariat, tasked in collaboration with KPLB Sabah, to address poverty issues by implementing the construction of 3,000 Rumah Mesra SMJ.
