RANTAU PANJANG: The number of Malaysians travelling to Thailand are expected to increase following the exemption of the TM.6 form effective Apr 15.

A Sungai Golok immigration spokeserson said the department believed the number of Malaysians especially those from Kelantan would exceed 300, which is the average number of visitors recorded in a day.

"With the exemption for foreign nationals to submit the TM.6 form when entering and exiting Thailand at all its immigration checkpoints beginning Apr 15, it will save time for visitors.

"They will not be required to queue up anymore to fill the form," said the spokesman.

The spokesman said the office would also no longer need to open more counters to cope with the rising number of foreigners at its checkpoints.

It was reported that foreign nationals will temporarily be exempted from submitting the TM.6 Form when entering or exiting Thailand at the immigration checkpoints effective Apr 15 to Oct 15.

Deputy government spokesperson Karom Phonphonklang said the decision was aimed at stimulating tourism and reducing congestion at the checkpoints.

He added it was also to facilitate convenience for tourists during this period.

Karom said relevant security agencies in Thailand would be responsible for monitoring and assessing the impact of the announcement after the six-month period.

He added if there was any impact on national security, these agencies may propose for its cancellation to the Cabinet.

The TM.6 Form is a document used to collect information about foreign visitors for the purpose of inspection and monitoring, aimed at maintaining the country's security.
