KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Pakistan have agreed to enhance cooperation between the two countries by exploring greater opportunities in the trade and investment sector.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also welcomed the proposal from his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif to export halal meat from Pakistan to Malaysia.

"Last night, I received a phone call from my counterpart in Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

"Apart from exchanging Eid Mubarak wishes, we also expressed our hopes to strengthen cooperation between these two nations.

"Prime Minister Shehbaz also reiterated his invitation to me to visit Pakistan the soonest," Anwar said in a posting that was shared on his Facebook account this morning.

Both leaders, said Anwar, also discussed the latest developments in Gaza and Afghanistan during the telephone conversation.

"Shehbaz also praised Malaysia for our stance on the issues in Palestine."
