PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is taking action against MyNewsHub for disseminating a video clip that went viral.

The said video showed a ‘civil servant’ being forcefully escorted by police after asking a question during a forum with the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

“MCMC has contacted the administrators of the MyNewsHub social media account to record statements about uploading and replaying an old video clip that caused confusion among internet users,” it said in a statement on Friday (April 12).

MCMC takes the matter of sharing the one-minute video seriously.

According to its statement, the video is perceived to create a negative perception of public servants.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year or both upon conviction, it said.

MCMC reminded the public not to spread false content online.

Earlier, the Public Service Department had clarified that the video shared was a simulation exercise to show the security personnel's readiness during a provocative situation.
