KUALA LUMPUR: Three areas in the Klang Valley registered an improvement in their air quality readings as of 8 am today.

According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index (API) Management System (APIMS), Klang and Banting recorded moderate API readings of 72 and 87 respectively this morning.

Another area in the Klang Valley that posted moderate air quality readings is Cheras, with an API reading of 81.

Yesterday, the three areas recorded unhealthy air quality readings, with Banting at 158, followed by Cheras at 155 and Klang at 153.

Thirty-seven other areas across the country also registered moderate air quality levels. The APIMS showed that no areas in the country reported unhealthy API readings.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in three districts in Johor.

The warning involves three affected districts, namely Mersing, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru.

"The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimeters (mm) per hour.

"The thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance," he said.
