KUALA LUMPUR: The international community should urgently insist on stopping the massacre and elimination of people in Gaza, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter was stated to Turkyish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan when they discussed regional and international issues, including the current situation in Palestine, through a phone call on Wednesday night.

“I stated that the international community must urgently insist that the massacre and elimination of the people of Gaza be stopped.

“Malaysia will continue to be committed in voicing the country’s firm stance on the plight of the Palestinian people on the world stage,” he said in a post on his official Facebook account yesterday.

Anwar said Erdogan also expressed hope to intensify the relationship between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and defence.

In the phone call, the Prime Minister once again invited the Turkyish president to visit Malaysia.

He said they also exchanged Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings, which Muslims in Malaysia celebrated on Wednesday.

In a separate Facebook post, Anwar said Malaysia and Pakistan had agreed to explore opportunities to strengthen ties, especially in trade and investment.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed the matter during a phone call he received from his Pakistani counterpart on Wednesday night.

“During the phone conversation, we both wanted to explore opportunities to strengthen Malaysia-Pakistan ties, especially in the field of trade and investment.

“Praying that relations between Malaysia and Pakistan will continue to grow for mutual benefit, Insya-Allah,” he said, Bernama reported.

Anwar said he also welcomed Shehbaz’s proposal to export halal meat from Pakistan to Malaysia.

Also discussed were various regional and international issues, including the situation in Gaza and Afghanistan.

“PM Shehbaz also praised Malaysia’s stance on the Palestinian issue,” he said.

Anwar said the two leaders also expressed hope that the ties between Malaysia and Pakistan would continue to be strengthened and Shehbaz also reiterated his invitation to Anwar to undertake an official visit to Pakistan as soon as possible.

The two leaders also exchanged Aidilfitri greetings.
