KUALA LUMPUR: The recent event where a group of Chinese villagers in Perak had gone out of their way to facilitate the passage of vehicles through their neighbourhood for travellers returning to Kuala Lumpur is a testament that national unity remains strong and intact.

MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said the move was a commendable act and vital to preserve the country's long-established national unity.

"Terima kasih and syabas to all who banded together and helped. It was a commendable act and it is vital to preserve our long-established national unity.

"I believe our national unity remains strong and intact. We should foster a stronger sense of unity in diversity that will be the key to racial harmony, well-being of the people, and prosperity of the country," he said in a statement today.

Recently, a selfless act of a group of villagers to assist drivers beat the Hari Raya traffic jam by coming up with a shortcut through their neighbourhood has touched the hearts of social media users.

Zairul Annuar took to Facebook to recount his experience, where a group of Chinese villagers had collectively agreed to help facilitate the passage of vehicles through their neighbourhood by levelling the road which was slightly inclined.

Zairul was moved by the residents' deed of kindness and readiness to help city folks returning from their villages to Kuala Lumpur.

"They came out of their homes and worked together. The people of Perak are amazing. Powerful. This is the true spirit of Malaysia."
