KUALA KUBU BARU: The Defence Ministry (Mindef) will await instruction and information from the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) to assist in the return of Malaysians caught in the Middle East conflict.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Malaysia is ready to take action to ensure the safety of its citizens and mitigate potential repercussions.

"Wisma Putra has a central role in coordinating efforts and providing guidance to citizens abroad.

"The possibility of evacuating Malaysian nationals depends on logistical considerations and the availability of safe routes.

"Although no direct military involvement is imminent, diplomatic channels remain crucial in monitoring and addressing the situation," he said after a work visit to Rumah Keluarga Angkatan Tentera in Taman Seruling, here.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said discussions would be held with the Foreign Ministry on the evacuation of Malaysian citizens from Iran should the situation in the country escalate.

He said this following international reports regarding alleged Israeli-guided missile strikes on a site in Iran.

Khaled added that the government's stance on the matter remains firm, aiming to prevent the conflict from escalating to other nations.

"Malaysia calls upon all nations, particularly those with diplomatic ties, to play their role in resolving the crisis to prevent prolonged turmoil. Following this issue, it is important to consult with relevant authorities, including embassies and commissions.

"This, in return will facilitate communication and monitoring of citizens' movements."

However, amid the uncertainties surrounding the conflict, Khaled urged caution in responding to reports, emphasising the need for verified information.

"Reports of Israeli drone attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran's Isfahan region have surfaced, but confirmation from official sources is lacking."
