LARUT: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will serve notice to its seven elected representatives, who declared their support for the unity government, compelling them to vacate their parliamentary and state seats after the conclusion of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the party's Supreme Council is expected to convene a meeting after the May 11 by-election to discuss the next course of action against the party rebels.

"Based on the instructions of the party's Supreme Council, we will hold a meeting immediately after (the polling day of) the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

"A day after the meeting, we will serve the six MPs, who declared their support for the unity government, with notice.

"We were supposed to hold the meeting at the nearest time, but we wanted to first focus on the by-election," he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration for the Larut parliamentary constituency in Felda Ijok here.

Dubbed as the 'Bersatu rebels', the six MPs, the six MPs, who declared their support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government, are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Dr. Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Last month, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari became the seventh Bersatu elected representative to declare his support for the unity government.

Hamzah said the action against the party rebels also serves as a reminder and lesson to other Bersatu MPs and state assemblymen on the importance of loyalty towards the party.

The Larut MP also hit out at the Bersatu rebels who criticised the party for the actions initiated against them.

"I do not need to comment on their actions. Let them get trapped in their own psychological game," he said.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday confirmed that the party was in the process of taking action against party rebels according to the party's amended Constitution.

"We will comply with the procedures so that we make no mistakes. Those responsible must face whatever actions that are taken against them," Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, said.
