State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said her ministry, through its agency Sabah Tourism Board (STB), is following up on the incident involving 64-year-old Chinese tourist Xue Dong Yuan in Lohan, Ranau, on April 22.

"I have instructed STB to follow up on the case to do what needs to be done," Liew said in a statement on Tuesday (April 30).

According to STB, Ma Chong and Joanne Wong from the Chinese Consul General office, as well as Aboni Loong and Florence Gom from the STB, visited the patient at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 1 at about 10am on Monday (April 29).

She added that the STB had also communicated with Flying Earth Travel Sdn Bhd so that the tour operator could take necessary action.

According to Liew’s statement, the Chinese Consul General Office and STB facilitated translation between the patient's family and Sabah ground handlers to discuss compensation for the patient's injury.

It added that the patient and a family member had arranged with their insurance company for their return journey back to Hebei Province, China, via Shanghai Airlines on Tuesday.

The incident came to light after the tourist expressed his grievances over a video that had gone viral on social media.
