SHAH ALAM: The salaries of civil servants in Selangor will be increased in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 1.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said adjustments to the state salary scales would be implemented after receiving directives on the raise at the federal level.

The state government had welcomed Anwar's announcement on the increase in civil servants' salaries of more than 13 per cent, which would take effect from Dec 1.

"This administration will take necessary steps in accordance with the current financial protocols, and I am awaiting adjustments from the federal government to synchronise with us," he said at a press conference at the state assembly (DUN) building here today.

He said that the increase in salary should serve as encouragement to all state civil servants, and that work productivity should always be strengthened in line with the high expectations of the people.

Amirudin said previously, the highest increase in civil servants' salaries was at 13 per cent, but the Madani government would ensure that it was higher than that.

Looking ahead to the next year, he projected that the anticipated increase would soar beyond RM10 billion. Such substantial allocation underscored the magnitude of the forthcoming adjustment, marking it as the most substantial salary increment in the nation's history.

"We will also examine it in terms of finance and how it can be accommodated, but at the same time, the national debt will not exceed what is appropriate," he said during his speech at the 2024 Labour Day celebration themed "Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa" at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
