HULU SELANGOR: Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin has launched a manifesto outlining 20 initiatives as part of her campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, aimed at improving the quality of life for the constituency's residents and fostering development in the region.

The key points include a commitment to scrutinise land acquisition processes affecting individuals and non-Muslim places of worship, as well as to establish a monitoring system to regulate the prices of essential goods.

The candidate has prioritised healthcare accessibility, road and public lighting maintenance, and proposed the creation of a service center that would operate throughout the week to provide community assistance.

Nyau proposes streamlining daily life by setting up a one-stop centre for managing utility payments and launching specialised transportation services for the elderly to access hospital facilities.

The manifesto also promises free funeral transport services for residents.

Addressing the socio-economic aspect, Nyau has proposed forming a committee to target the eradication of hardcore poverty within the B40 income group and launching a rapid action unit to tackle crime and drug issues in cooperation with relevant authorities.

Education and development programmes feature prominently, with proposals for leadership and educational courses in local schools, investment in sports and adventure activities, and transforming the region into a sought-after tourist spot known for its gastronomy, outdoor pursuits, and crafts.

The manifesto further emphasises the need to boost local entrepreneurship by easing the process for business licensing, stall applications and expediting state government grant approvals.

"I will support local contractors to gain district-level refurbishment projects," she said at the press conference on Saturday (May 4).

Nyau’s educational initiatives include specialised scholarship programmes for high-performing students in national examinations and financial aid for university registration fees.

The by-election is being held following the demise of the incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong from DAP, who passed away on March 21 due to cancer.

Polling day is set for May 11.

Nyau Ke Xin is running against Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Perikatan Nasional’s candidate Khairul Azhari Saut, and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin.
