JOHOR BARU: Despite rising operating costs, some restaurants in Johor are continuing to offer RM5 Menu Rahmah meals with no plans to drop it anytime soon.

Restaurant owner Nor Azlina Abd Rahman, 47, said she has yet to face any major difficulties in making the affordable meal available to her customers.

“For now, I can still cover the cost of providing the meals, so I think there is no need for me to remove the Menu Rahmah option from my restaurant.

“Of course, it is not helping me gain extra profits in any way, but it is also not causing me to lose money either,” she said.

In Mersing, restaurant owner Mohd Noor Hisyam Ibrahim, 38, said he receives an average of about 20 Menu Rahmah customers daily, most of them students.

“I have also had first-time customers who were surprised when they found out that I still offer Menu Rahmah, since most restaurants have dropped it,” he added.

Mohd Noor Hisyam said he offers a different RM5 meal every day so that his customers will not get bored having the same dishes all the time.

“I noticed there were usually more customers on Wednesdays when we offered chicken tom yam.

“However, due to the rising cost of ingredients to make tom yam, we have recently switched to chicken soup instead.

“These are some of the measures we are taking to make sure that we can continue to sustain the business without having to sacrifice the Menu Rahmah,” he said.
