KUALA KUBU BAHARU: Calls from former DAP leader Dr P. Ramasamy to boycott the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election have not swayed Indian voters, according to Malaysian Indian Justice Party (MIJP) president SP Murugan.

Murugan said Ramasamy's influence within the Indian community in Kuala Kubu Baharu was minimal.

He noted the significant efforts made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in addressing the concerns of the Indian community.

"Ramasamy's sentiments are personal and do not resonate with the grassroots," he said, highlighting the support garnered by the current leadership, affirming that Indian voters were not heeding Ramasamy's calls.

Speaking to reporters at a gathering and community outreach event in Ampang Pecah last night, Murugan, a close ally of Barisan Nasional (BN), disclosed that nearly 90 per cent of Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu were in favour of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, Pang Sock Tao.

He expressed confidence in Pang, emphasising her active campaign efforts alongside Zahid to engage Indian voters to secure victory.

"Today, I am actively campaigning for the PH candidate. Our focus is on engaging Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu. We have garnered full support from the Indian community for the Pang.

Ramasamy who is the former Penang deputy chief minister II, and founded the Indian-based party Urimai, urged Indian voters to avoid voting for PH in the by-election following dissatisfaction with the treatment given to the Indian community by the unity government.

The Election Commission has scheduled early voting at the state seat for Tuesday.
