KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with social media platforms, removed 308 pornographic content and 838 prostitution-related content between Jan 1 and June this year.

This was across various social media platforms, including X and Telegram.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said over the same period, the MCMC blocked 549 pornographic sites and 69 prostitution sites.

"For enforcement actions, seven cases involving pornographic content are still under investigation by MCMC.

"This action will be continued by MCMC periodically based on monitoring and complaints received from authorities and the public," she said, in response to Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN-Beufort).

Siti Aminah had asked about the government's plan to combat the dark side (DS) activities and actions taken by the ministry against account operators offering online prostitution activities on social media platforms such as X and Telegram.

Teo said the ministry through MCMC provided technical assistance to relevant authorities such as in the takedown of social media content and website blocking, supplying information and digital forensic analysis to expedite investigation processes.

Additionally, MCMC carries out enforcement actions under the Communications and Multimedia Act Malaysia if uploaded content is deemed obscene, offensive, false, threatening, or malicious.
