KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): Water service operator Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) is confident it can supply water to data centres without impacting public water supplies, said its acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah.

Abas said that Air Selangor has received water supply requests from data centres in various locations such as Cyberjaya and Setia Alam.

“We have carried out our forecast before these data centres come in and have prepared ourselves to have a (water) reserve margin of at least 20%,” Abas told reporters on Thursday following the launch of Air Selangor’s 2023 sustainability report.

“For Air Selangor, we must be ready. We can allocate water to data centres without compromising the water supply to the public,” he added.

Air Selangor’s water reserve margin stood at 15.34% in 2023, higher than the 12.02% recorded in 2022, primarily attributed to the additional supply of 275 million litres (MLD) from the Langat 2 Western Corridor, as well as the increase in distributable capacity for the Rasau WTP from 211 MLD to 250 MLD from November 2023 onwards.
