PETALING JAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman plans to run from Muar in Johor to Parliament in protest over the lack of funding for Opposition parliamentarians.

He intends to run 200km to raise funds under his "Langkah Muar" initiative, aimed at raising funds for his constituency's community service centres.

"For more than a year, the Opposition constituencies have not received allocations. Government MPs get RM20mil each term, but the Opposition gets nothing.

"The government asks us to negotiate. I have met the Deputy Prime Minister twice and sent three letters, but there has been no progress.

"I cannot give up. Instead of complaining, it is better for me to take action," Syed Saddiq said in a video posted on X.

Syed Saddiq has been known for raising funds by shaving his hair in the Bald Challenge Fundraiser, conducting ThunderBOLD classes, cooking and selling lasagna, and even modelling kurta for a brand.

"Now, I am using my legs to raise funds in Muar and as a form of protest," he said.

On April 25, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said a memorandum of understanding draft would be provided to the Opposition so they could determine if there is a need for further discussion, adding that the draft would be completed as soon as possible.

On April 18, the unity government secretariat supreme leadership council decided in principle to consider allocating funds to Opposition MPs.
