KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) has appointed Geetha Kandiah as its new president following the chamber's recent annual general meeting (AGM).

According to MGCC, Geetha is the third female president to lead the bilateral trade support organisation in its 33-year history.

"As the new president, Geetha will oversee the activities of MGCC, which represents the interests of more than

430 members by connecting German companies to Malaysia to promote foreign trade," it said.

MGCC executive director Jan Noether said MGCC is pleased to welcome Geetha.

Noether thanked the outgoing president, Tim Groth, who was at the helm for a year.

"She brings with her two decades of legal experience and her strong business acumen along with knowledge of the region across various industries will undoubtedly propel the chamber's role in driving investments into Malaysia," he said.

Geetha's appointment reflects MGCC's ambitions of becoming a progressive chamber of commerce which now has more than one-quarter (31 per cent) of women as part of its board of directors.

An accomplished lawyer managing a company with a regional presence, Geetha is a highly sought-after

international speaker.

She is also a business strategy coach and a steering committee member of the Malaysian chapter of the 30% Club, which supports sustainable business-led change to improve gender diversity in their commitment to include greater female representation in Malaysian corporate boards.
