KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians were involved in or affected by the recent air crash involving Saurya Air's Bombardier CRJ-200 at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, confirmed the Foreign Ministry.

In a statement today, the ministry said they are closely monitoring the aftermath of the air incident.

"Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and families affected by the accident, as well as to the people and government of Nepal.

"Malaysians in the affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by the local authorities," the statement read.

The ministry added that Malaysians requiring consular assistance can contact the Malaysian Embassy at Bakhundole-3, Lalitpur Kathmandu, Nepal (P.O Box 24372), call +97715445680 / +97715445681 (general) or +977-9801008000 (for emergency only) or email to mwkathmandu@kln.gov.my.

"The ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates, if necessary."

Earlier, it was reported that 18 people were killed when a regional passenger plane belonging to Nepal's Saurya Airlines crashed and caught fire while taking off from Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.

The plane, carrying two crew members and 17 technicians, was going for regular maintenance to Nepal's new Pokhara airport, which opened in January and is equipped with aircraft maintenance hangars.
