KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has urged critics to stop targeting Malaysian athletes over their attire.

Responding to a recent incident in which images of national diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri were edited to make them lewd and uploaded by a person, she emphasised that critics should not impose their preferences on national athletes.

"They have one priority alone - to excel in their sports," she said in a Facebook post.

On Tuesday, Nur Dhabitah's husband, actor-comedian Mohammad Aizat Ahmad Nazri, said he would take legal action against an individual who allegedly edited and uploaded lewd images of his wife.

Aizat, popularly known as Jiggy Masin, had received two such photos since Nur Dhabitah reached the semi-finals of the women's 3m springboard diving event at the Paris Olympics on Aug 8.

She advanced to the finals the next day, ultimately finishing 12th.

"Based on statements from an investigating officer and a lawyer, a legal notice has been issued to the individual. I will proceed with legal action because what this individual has done is too much," Aizat said.

Previously, Aizat had expressed his frustrations on social media over the lewd edited images depicting his wife, which had become a topic of conversation online.
