BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hailed his recent meeting with Brunei's government as a notable success, saying it has strengthened its bilateral ties.

Speaking at a press conference at Brunei International Airport, he commended the high level of engagement and thoroughness of the discussions, adding that both nations are committed to elevating their cooperation to unprecedented levels.

Anwar's two-day visit, which began last night, marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei.

This visit is his third as prime minister, following his initial trip in January last year and his attendance at a royal wedding earlier this year, highlighting the enduring close relationship between the two countries.

During his visit, Anwar engaged in a significant meeting with Brunei's Sultan at Nurul Iman Istana.

The meeting included key figures such as Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Seri Laila Jasa Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, International Trade and Industry Minister Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Anwar said that the discussions were fruitful in addressing long standing issues, including border disputes.

"I extend my gratitude to both the Federal Government and the Sarawak State Government for their efforts in resolving these complex matters," he said.

"The Sultan's acknowledgment marks a significant step towards addressing and resolving stalled border issues, ensuring mutual interests are upheld."

The visit culminated in the signing of several key bilateral agreements, including the First Phase of Land Border Demarcation, an Exchange of Notes detailing commitments to marking and measurement in priority areas, and a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Transportation.

These agreements reflect a strong commitment to enhancing collaborative efforts between Malaysia and Brunei.

The leaders of both countries also witnessed the signing of several bilateral instruments including the First Phase of Land Border Demarcation; Exchange of Notes that outlines the commitment to marking and measurement work in priority areas; and MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Transportation.
