KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, which operates the country's public stage bus and rail services, confirmed that it has been hit by a cybersecurity breach involving part of its internal systems.

However, Prasarana assured that the incident had not caused any disruption to its daily operations and that its priority remains on the safety and reliability of public transport services.

"Our cybersecurity team has identified and is addressing the incident, which involved unauthorised access to several of our systems.

"We are managing and dealing with the situation. We are also working with cyber security experts to investigate and take mitigation measures," Prasarana said in a statement on Monday.

The government-owned company also said it is working with the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard its systems. "This collaborative effort aims to provide a comprehensive response and protect our systems," it added.

Cyber threat monitor FalconFeeds, which is under the cybersecurity firm Technisanct, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night that Prasarana had fallen victim to a ransomware attack by RansomHub, one of the largest ransomware groups currently in operation.

According to the post, RansomHub claimed it had obtained 316GB of the organisation’s data and planned to publish it within the next six to seven days.
