KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has assured the public it will closely monitor Jalan Masjid India after a second sinkhole appeared early this morning near the Masjid India police post.

It said, in a statement, that the affected area has been cordoned off and safety barriers have been placed to prevent public access.

DBKL has already enlisted Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) to inspect the sewage pipes at the site and surrounding areas to ensure there is no further risk.

Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that public safety is the top priority, and DBKL will take all necessary measures to ensure it.

"We will work closely with Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) and other agencies to ensure follow-up measures are taken to prevent future incidents. The safety and well-being of Kuala Lumpur residents remain our utmost concern."

This new sinkhole, located just 50m from the one that swallowed a 48-year-old Indian tourist last week, was confirmed earlier by Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman.
