BUKIT MERTAJAM: Tourists visiting Kuala Lumpur need not worry following the sinkhole incident that caused an Indian tourist to fall at Jalan Masjid India, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the geotechnical study had established the cause of the incident and found that it was safe.

"It is safe," he said on Friday (Aug 30) during his visit to Penang.

He also mentioned that any areas considered at risk of turning into sinkholes should be dealt with right away.

He said the city council and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa, should monitor those areas closely.

Anwar was replying to a reporter’s question regarding the sinkhole incident.

A second sinkhole is believed to have appeared early Wednesday (Aug 28) morning following a downpour.

On Friday (Aug 23), Vijayalaksmi, 48, an Indian national, fell into a sinkhole that appeared under her while she was walking with her family at Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.

A search and rescue operation has entered its eighth day.
