KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has reiterated his call for the people to propagate harmony and unity in the country and not poison minds with negativity.

In a royal address in conjunction with National Day, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded everyone not to spread hate by using negative elements such as the 3R issues.

“The royal institution should not be dragged into allegations and slander related to political issues.

“The royal institution is above politics, and therefore, any form of reprimand and criticism against rulers and the royal institution must be voiced through the correct channel and handled prudently,’’ said Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ruler said he has always advised leaders and politicians to avoid inciting the politics of hate; however, some leaders and politicians still practise this negative culture.

“Nevertheless, I will not tire of continuing to advise the people to always inculcate high levels of unity within the community.

“Any differences amongst the races, religions and political leanings should not be an obstacle for Malaysians in being loyal to the nation.

“On the contrary, use the differences as a recipe to create a pluralistic society which is united and respects each other,’’ said Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ruler added that prudent efforts must be made to develop programmes that can bridge any divide and eradicate prejudices prevalent among some people in the country.

Sultan Sharafuddin also said the younger generation, the nation’s hope, was exposed to a new form of colonialism that touched their thoughts and culture in tandem with the speed of information technology, especially social media.

“Hence, the younger generation must be smart and have to be smart in facing and solving all the problems and challenges faced.

“The spirit of patriotism, tolerance and mutual respect must be continuously instilled within the younger generation in the form of unity and harmony, and it must be free of any negative elements,’’ said Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ruler said he was confident that appreciation of the actual meaning of independence would rekindle love for the nation and help formulate a developed and progressive nation.
