KUALA LUMPUR: The corruption trial of Muhammad Faisal Hamzah, the son of an Opposition leader, has been fixed for hearing over 15 days next year.

Sessions Court judge Rosli Ahmad set the hearing dates after Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Ikhwan Zaudii Nordin informed the court that the prosecution had provided the defence with the relevant case documents.

Muhammad Faisal, the son of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, is accused of accepting a RM100,000 bribe. The court set Feb 21 next year for this purpose.

The hearing will take place over multiple sessions: March 24-28, April 14-18 and April 21-25.

According to the charge sheet, Muhammad Faisal had dishonestly accepted a RM100,000 bribe from one Izmir Abd Hamid as an inducement for Heitech Padu Bhd to appoint Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Per My Solutions as marketing consultants, due to his influence.

The companies were then paid a RM700,000 commission after Heitech Padu Bhd was awarded a RM33mil tender titled “Supply, Rental, Implementation, Training, Support and Maintenance of Security Infrastructure” by the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

Muhammad Faisal was charged under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine of up to five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.
