KUALA LUMPUR: The People's Progressive Party (MyPPP) has appealed to rejoin Barisan Nasional as a component party.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said MyPPP, which quit the coalition after the 14th general election, is seeking a return to the fold.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said he would bring MyPPP's application to the next BN Supreme Council meeting.

"We will take into consideration their appeal and the court's decision to look into the previous leadership's decision to leave BN.

"I will bring this matter in the next BN top leadership meeting," he told reporters at the party's first annual general assembly in five years at the World Trade Centre, here, today.

In June, Zahid denied claims that BN had sidelined MyPPP.

He said while MyPPP was not a component party, it was part of the coalition under the "Friends of BN" banner along with 10 other parties.

BN comprises Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.

Under BN's constitution, the decision to accept any political party as a component must be made through consensus.
