KUALA LUMPUR: Bangi member of parliament Syahredzan Johan has criticised Perikatan Nasional (PN) for rejecting the government's draft of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the allocations for the opposition.

In a posting on X, the DAP central executive committee member questioned PN's reasoning for turning down the MoU as there was nothing in the drafts about backing the prime minister until the end of the parliamentary term.

"There is no mention of a need to support the prime minister. So the opposition can still oppose, but they just have to be responsible, and not sow racial or religious hatred.

"Did they reject the MoU because they still want to sow hatred? Did they reject the MoU because they did not want to recognise the human rights and freedom of Malaysians regardless of race and religion?

"Is it that hard for them to refrain from sowing hatred and recognising racial and religious diversity, as stated in the drafts, that PN has to reject the MoU outright?"

Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof furnished proof to counter claims by the opposition on the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding allocations for opposition members of parliament.

He had also rejected claims by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on how the MoU's conditions supposedly ran contrary to the Federal Constitution.

Fadillah had said that by sharing the MoU drafts, the people could evaluate how opposition leader's claims were absolutely without basis.

On Sunday, Hamzah had said PN unanimously rejected two proposed MoUs - one between the government and PN, and the other between the government and PN MPs - due to several concerns.

Hamzah had claimed the MoUs contained conditions that could "jeopardise the special rights of Malays and Bumiputeras" under the Federal Constitution.

While criticising the drafts for conflicting with traditional, cultural, moral, religious, and local values, he also cited the potential for "misinterpretation and abuse of power" due to unclear compliance mechanisms.
