PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will be prevented from speaking up on 3R (race, religion and royalty) and LGBT issues under the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) on allocations for the Opposition, claims Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"Never had in the history of Malaysia since independence that a Federal Government has decided issues which can and cannot be spoken about by the MPs, other than those stated in the (Parliament) Standing Orders and the Federal Constitution," the Perikatan chairman said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 17) as a follow-up to the Opposition's rejection of the draft MOU.

"For example, the MOU has a chapter, especially on 3R issues, which bars MPs from speaking up on them. Raising these issues is deemed as spewing hatred.

"What is the right of the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (government) to stop Perikatan MPs from fighting for the rights which have been stated in the Constitution by speaking up in Dewan Rakyat?

"This MOU stops Perikatan MPs from making statements that are 'discriminatory to any other parties based on religion, race ...or any other identity factors'. This identity includes LGBT groups. Does this mean that if the Perikatan MPs agree to the MOU, we cannot speak up on any policies or laws that may be enacted by the Pakatan-Barisan government in the future?" questioned the Pagoh MP.

He also claimed that the MOU was unconstitutional and went against the values of Malaysians.

"The allocations for the Opposition MPs need not be made through any agreements or MOUs," he said.

On Sunday, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin stated that Perikatan MPs have anonymously rejected the draft of the MOU from the Madani government.
