KOTA BARU: Police arrested a government servant believed to be in cahoots with another suspect who was caught impersonating a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer yesterday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 25-year-old government servant was detained in Pasir Mas at 9pm.

"The General Operations Force yesterday detained the first suspect, a 31-year-old trader, for impersonating a MACC officer in Kasa, Pasir Mas.

"They seized from him several items including a pistol, an authority card, a pair of handcuffs, a few T-shirts with MACC's logo and a drone set.

"Following his arrest, police detained the second suspect, who is a government servant from Kedah but has been working in Kelantan since 2019.

"Both men have no criminal records. They have been remanded for three days beginning today to assist in police's investigation into the case," he told a press conference here today.

Yusoff said investigations showed that the first suspect had been active for the past three years.

"We have not ruled out that the two may be involved in other crimes as we have video clips that link them with such crimes. However, we cannot reveal details as the investigation against the two best friends is ongoing," he added.

Yusoff said their investigation showed that the first suspect had bought the seized items, except for the pistol, from an online platform.

"We believe the pistol was smuggled in from a neighbouring country," he added.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1971 and Section 170 of the Penal Code.
