Graduated from Universiti Malaya with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) in 1998.
Masters in Business Administration in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University of Malaya in 2009.
Dato' Mohd Rizal Bin Mohd Jaafar is a Chartered Accountant under the Malaysia Institute of Accountants.

He started his career as a bank supervisor and served for 12 years at Bank Negara Malaysia, supervising the Islamic, Commercial and Investment Banking Institutions Department prior joining Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad ("SME Bank") in 2010. He was involved in developing, driving and implementing transformation strategies and initiatives to rejuvenate and strengthen SME Bank. In 2013, he was promoted to the position of Group Chief Operating Officer of SME Bank, where he was responsible for the overall operations of SME Bank. In 2015, he joined Widad Business Group Sdn Bhd ("WBGSB") as the Group Chief Executive Officer and is currently responsible for the strategic and day-to-day business direction and performance of WBGSB group of companies.
