Mr Eu Peng Meng @ Leslie Eu was appointed to the Board of the Company on 31 March 2003 as an Independent Non-Executive Director. Mr Leslie Eu is known in the corporate circle as a Founder Member and the first Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian International Shipping Corporation by virtue of his close association with the Kuok Group of Companies. He took to shipping almost immediately after he graduated with a degree in commerce from the University of Dublin. He joined Ben Line Steamers Ltd, one of the best-known and biggest shipping lines serving the then flourishing trade between Europe and the Far East in 1959. He returned to Malaysia in 1969 to head the newly created Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC). He executed the office of the Chief Executive Officer at MISC since the date of its original inception until his resignation in 1985 to make way for a government appointee prior to MISC being listed on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. While at MISC, Mr Leslie Eu was Malaysia’s representative at UNTAD in the capacity of an advisor to the shipping industry. He left MISC in 1985 in good hands to enter other fields of businesses in haulage, shipbuilding, ship agency, property, manufacturing, banking, airlines and excelled just as well in these activities. Having left MISC, Mr Leslie Eu voluntarily took the post at Roxy with a view to assist the late Dato’ Alex Lee who was appointed Deputy Agriculture Minister then. Immediately after the restructuring of Roxy’s equity in early 1988, Mr Leslie Eu left the company to concentrate on his family businesses and fostered a close association with the Evergreen Group of Companies in Taiwan. He was awarded Straits Transport Personality Award in 1995 for his excellence in his contribution to the transport industry in Malaysia. His contributions went well beyond the national shipping line he served. His views were sought, ideas accepted at house and abroad in the many committees, associations and related bodies in which he was invited to serve.
